They are plastic, but a good quality for the price.These sunglasses have a pretty strong reader which I need. They also seem pretty sturdy. My last pair I ordered broke after falling off my head. They also came in a little case (each pair) which I love as that helps me keep track of them and take better care of them. I would recommend. Not only do they make looking at Google Maps easier during a long trip, but they are excellent with blocking bright sunlight. No need to hurry and pull down the car visor. They fit snug on my face and the lower reader portion doesn't get in the way. Their design is sleek and sturdy, and they have good weight, but not too heavy for long-term wear. They are a little darker than I prefer. I tried to read on a porch with them on and could hardly see the page. However, sitting on a pier in bright sun and reading, they were perfect!I'm very happy with the sunglasses. Very nice quality and they came with 2 little cloth bags for each pair. I'm thinking about ordering another set. These are the best "reader" sunglasses I have owned.I liked that I did not have to keep putting them on and taking them off to read things, and they were affordable
